“Settled”

“Settled”

First thougs on writing this update about how we are doing.. are the thoughts about how YOU are doing? I mean.. is it -10 the whole time or what? haha. We’re OK over here! Queensland is flooding. a bit west/north of Australia it’s flooding.. But we are good. I think Perth at this moment is the best time to be here because of all the lovely weather we have.

So update us about how you are doing! We’re interested in you too!

I believe the last real update was on the 5th of December so we’ll start off from there. Neil’s parents Jim & Linda were over for work (super coincidence!) So we could stay at their place! Very kind and what a luxury for two broke backpackers..! We stayed in Scarborough right next to the beach in an apartment. What a view! unfortunately no pictures since the library computer wont accept my iphone.. So the first days we arived in Perth we just relaxed a bit and enjoyed. But after a few days something had to be arranged and we went into town to see what we needed to have a enjoyable stay in Australia. We figured a bank account would be nice, an Australian phone number, tax file number.. etc. etc.! Between those things we were also looking for work and a place to stay. We mannaged to arrange everything before Neil’s parents left apart from work and a place to stay haha. The day Neil’s parents left we planned to search for a hostel but a very good friend of Linda offered us to stay in her mothers house! The mother moved not too long ago and sold her house. It’s still theirs until i believe the 13th of Januari. If it’s a bit complicated don’t get to worried about it. The main thing now is, we have a place till about the 7th of Januari!

Everything + a place to stay but what about work? (This story may have some turns as well..) We actualy found something we liked. When we were walking in the city we also walked into hostels to get some information. We noticed an add to work for a Jay-Z / U2 concert. We were so up for it we immediately decided to visit the agency who arranges the staff for the concert. After some asking around and no-one knew where it was we found it by accident :D . So we wanted to apply for the job, but they wanted to see a RSA certificate. It means Responsible Service of Alcohol. You need a certificate over here to be able to work behind the bar.. Fine. So we did during the weekend. Back on monday, we applied for the job again. We called first to make sure they still needed us. We arrived, filled in some forms. THEN.. they told us we needed the right uniforms. So not only the RSA, but now also black leather shoes, black pants, and a white shirt.. the RSA already cost us 75$ for your information.. haha. After A LOT of searching we ended up with 10$ black pants & 15$ white shirt. I (Bart) was lucky to be able to borrow shoes from Steve. One of Neil’s parents friends. We found some shoes for Neil only for 15$. So quite good in the end but yea.. Some work before the actual work…
So one week later, back to the agency in our uniforms, finalising our employment. After some more forms we also got some quick courses on holding plates (pain in the ass! i seem to do something wrong but no one knows what) and holding glasses. SO. Everything is done. We go back to the desk, then they offered us another job.. After some doubting what to do, since all the work we had done was actually for the concert.. we decided to go for the other job haha. We worked in the WACA stadium for the Ashes 2010 for four days. It’s a cricket game between England and Australia. We’ve worked very hard and made long days. So glad to finaly have some money in the Australian bank:)!

Jobless and homeless soon. Merry Christmas ;)
Oh yeah. Lets give this christmas to the ones who need it.. hahah! no serious i mean it

I hope i made up for the days i haven’t been writing any stories!

Im also going to create “transports of delight”. its going to be a large banner with inspiration for our trip. When the banner is full of pictures and other things possible i hope we can make a decision of whether its going to be a roadtrip or backpacking & also where all this will take place! I’ve already found some pics but they’re not on the banner yet. As soon as i’ve made a start ill update the page!

Different Times, different looks

Different Times, different looks

A new look to my oh so cool blog! From now on I’ll be uploading new work, some activities & future plans. I’m not going to say I’m going to post a news item every week…. But only if there’s something nice to share. So far Neil and I decided to go traveling somewhere in the end of the year and probably decide the last day where we are going to. We would love to get suggestions from you so let us know!

The End?

The End?

After many days of thinking what to write for my dear readers of the sometimes weekly, now monthly news posts, I’ve finally come up with some points.

First of all I’d like to inform you all that I’m sitting in the sun writing this on a peace of paper without a shirt on! Yes dear readers, the sun is that nice. Not to make you entirely jealous, I won’t walk around like this cause the wind is still pretty cold. No picture tho cause that would make you entirely jealous ( ha-ha )

Saumur is coming up and for the ones who don’t know, It’s an international vaulting competition. I’ve been asked by the Belgian team to help them out with their compulsories since one of them is injured. Well.. asked.. It sort of happened automatically. Rob and I have been training for a while now but last week i was getting nervous already. It’s weird cause I’ve never been like this before a competition. The reason is I know I can improve so much on some exorcises in a short period of time. I know cause I’ve been better and this period I’ve been abroad I’ve worked a lot on my physical skills. Ah well.. 1,5 week to go.

Which reminds me, after Saumur I’m planning on going home again. I’m in need for money ever-since there is another great trip ahead. So “The End?” NO! I’m also a bit done living with just a few pounds and euro’s. I do want to continuous vaulting when i come back, so if anyone in the vaulting world is reading this… I’m also looking for a well paid job. (attention! well paid is underlined)

Some business talk: Robs website is going great. It’s really looking good and working nice. I’ve finished the logo for theDutchdesigner.com and the website itself is starting to shape up as well.

Any good?

Clouds are forming, the sun is away, my t-shirt is back on, so a good time to stop writing. Might be the last greetings from France…

Ps. It will be nice seeing everyone again.

Feels like I’ve been home for one second and in France for a week..
Holland was short but it feels good doing my thing again.

So I’m in France now! Deauville to be precise.
On the map. And some info.

Welcome to Deauville:

I arrived yesterday around 12 at night so this is my first day.. this morning we went to the market, bought food for this night and then went for a drink at a cafe. back to the haras (stoeterij) and did some work in the yard:

Now im sitting in the living room at robs house and having a small drink. Next weeks update I’ll give you a tour through the place where im staying and yes.. I’ts improved A LOT! Not to mention that i was very grateful with my place in Scotland! I hope they know. A big thanks again. They’ve been a great start of a hopefully wonderful journey in life.
Au revoir! et bonne nuit

busy busy..

busy busy..

een Dinsdag update…. I’ve been busy quite a lot last weeks. i’ve now been working with Phil for a couple of weeks and i will continuous working until next weeks friday/saturday! then from 13 till 20 December i will take a holiday (haha just started working and then already going for a holiday…). No the reason i’m taking a holiday is because it will be my last week here in Scotland this year and Dieter, former trainer and now friend of mine is coming over for a week! i’m exited because i’m finally going to see something Scotland is know about! think about loch ness, william wallace, highlands, etc. the main idea is to travel a couple of days through Scotland. we’ll see what happens exactly.

i drove a car here! haha. let it stand still in the middle of the road but on a second try it went pretty good and the girls where speaking alright about me as a driver. (yes, there’s a voice in the back of my head who says ‘bart.., thats women speaking positive, not men’.

anyway.., more news and stories soon.

cheers buddies!
